Steamed Mussels

I really wanted to make something different for dinner tonight. I looked at the Hen House website to see what they had on sale this week. Then I saw that they had 2-lb bags of fresh black mussels for $7.99...perfect! I researched some recipes and found the perfect one from eatingwell.com. They had many mussel recipes but I went with steamed mussels in a tomato broth (I tweaked it some). This recipe is super easy, healthy and full of flavor!

Ingredients:
1 tsp extra virgin olive oil
1 medium or large yellow onion
4-6 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
2 tomatoes on the vine and 1 14.5 oz can of petite diced tomatoes, drained
1 cup dry white wine,  I used Chardonnay because thats what I had in the fridge
2 pounds of mussels

Spring Has Sprung

Now that the weather is finally nice, we are adding little touches of Spring around our house. We love fresh flowers around here, but we're changing them too often in these floating jars vases we made last year. Soooooooo we found some fake one's at JoAnn's while picking out fabric for our new Spring pillows (pictures to come). They were cheap and cute, and add a bright Spring touch to our kitchen.

DIY Spring Butterfly Wreath

I always pass by those cute feather butterflies at Hobby Lobby and wondered what to use them for. I came across this cute DIY butterfly wreath, while looking for something Spring-like for our front door. It was just what I was looking for! I only needed a few other supplies, and some patience wrapping the wreath mold.

Supplies:
Styrofoam Wreath
Yarn (color of choice)
Feather Butterflies (in variety of sizes and colors)
Hot Glue Gun
Scissors

Wrap styrofoam wreath completely with yarn....WARNING: this takes longer than you would think! I had to pass it on for everyone else to take their turn.

Place feather butterflies in the layout that you like on your wreath, do this before you glue so you can move them around until you get them to look like you want them to. Put a small drop of hot glue on the wreath and stick each butterfly onto glue, holding for a few seconds. Continue until all butterflies are glued, and let it sit for a few minutes.....bada bing!
